TYPES OF FOSTER PLACEMENTS

CONTACT US

SHORT TERM

Short term fostering can range from a single night to as long as a few years. This all depends on the individual’s circumstances.

The child may be:
Returning to home
Going through an assessment process
A short stay until their long term placement

A short term placement can turn into a long term placement if everyone is in agreement. We ourselves have had a short term placement that transitioned to staying for 14 years and still in contact to this day.

LONG TERM

Long term fostering is when you commit to the child until adulthood wherever possible. This would give a greater commitment to the child and to yourselves. Children benefit greatly from consistency, stability and a sense of belonging.

RESPITE

Respite foster care provides an essential break to other foster parents or birth families on a short-term basis. This can be care for children within our agency or from the Local Authority. All foster carers get 2 weeks paid respite which they can use through-out the year. If you do not use your allowance, you get this paid instead.
